For the third time in four matches, Konawaena’s boys soccer team got the desired end result.
However, Wildcats coach Keahi Fleming hopes his players can develop a style of play that will, in the end, lead to even more victories.
J.G. Replogle scored three goals Tuesday at Julian Yates Field, leading Konawaena to a 4-0 win over Keaau in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation boys soccer match.
The hat trick was Replogle’s second of the season, and the sophomore leads Konawaena with 11 goals.
Sophomore Gerardo Meneses scored his first goal of the season for Konawaena (4-4-2), which took a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Fleming has no issues with the Wildcats’ effort, saying “they’ve been playing hard till the end.” However, the Konawaena coach said several Wildcats spent too much time trying to advance the ball on their own in the second half instead of stringing together a series of quick passes required to produce quality scoring chances.
“We were holding on to it too much,” Fleming said. “Too much dribbling, not enough passing.”
Junior Gabriel Magana and sophomore Coran Yamamoto combined to shut out Keaau (2-6) in goal.

Girls
* Konawaena 7, Keaau 0: Junior Saxon Nagata scored her eighth and ninth goals of the season at Julian Yates field as the Wildcats improved to 7-2-1.
Junior Ua Ruedy tallied her seventh goal, while senior Jasmine Ward scored her sixth. Senior Raine Kolman, and freshmen Shayli Nakamoto and Kaulana Ruedy added a goal apiece.
Freshman goalkeeper Kililani Kunitomo blanked the Cougars (4-6).
